Permission was given for both Soyuz (GB) and Sognatore (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
Leaving the stalls, Soyuz (GB), placed second, jumped right-handed, giving a bump to Full Moon Rising (GB), placed fourth, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Soyuz (GB).
Approximately ½ a furlong after the start, the winner, Jerriais (GB), was steadied to avoid the heels of BILLIE’S GIRL (IRE), placed third, and shifted right handed, carrying Capaldi (GB), unplaced, off its intended line, which in turn inconvenienced Your Love Is King (GB), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Jerriais (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 1 furlong after the start, involving Sognatore (IRE), placed fifth, ridden by David Egan; Soyuz (GB), placed second, ridden by Jack Duern; Only Debris (IRE), placed sixth, ridden by Harry Burns, and Capla Lass (GB), unplaced, ridden by Cam Hardie.
Egan was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had permitted his mount to drift left- handed towards the rail when insufficiently clear of a free-running Soyuz (GB), which was crowded for several strides and carried left onto Only Debris (IRE) causing Burns to take a slight check and also Capla Lass (GB) which was hampered after receiving a significant bump.
A further enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 1 furlong after the start when Kalash Princess (GB), unplaced, ridden by Dylan Hogan, interfered with SHE’S NO ANGEL (IRE), placed eighth, ridden by Sophie Clements.
Hogan was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to move left-handed to the rail when insufficiently clear of a free running SHE’S NO ANGEL (IRE), causing Clements to take a check and lose her pitch on his inside.
Being a 7Ib claiming apprentice, Clements was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
The performance of Your Love Is King (GB), which finished unplaced, beaten by 17½ lengths, was considered.
Michael Bell explained that the race may have come too soon for the gelding after winning at Nottingham on 3 August 2021 and that Your Love Is King (GB) ran flat as a result.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Jack Duern reported that Soyuz (GB), placed second, ran too free and was virtually unsteerable in the early stages of the race.
David Egan reported that Sognatore (IRE), which started favourite and finished fifth, ran flat and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
