An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after two incidents of interference inside the final furlong involving the winner, San Francisco Bay (IRE), ridden by Cam Hardie, and Oh Great (IRE), placed second, ridden by David Egan.
It was established that in the first incident approximately ¾ of a furlong out Oh Great (IRE) had been notably hampered and carried off its intended line by San Francisco Bay (IRE) shifting quickly right-handed whilst racing greenly.
It was further established that in the second incident on the run to the line Oh Great (IRE) had been slightly inconvenienced when intimidated off its intended line by San Francisco Bay (IRE) drifting right-handed into its path.
After taking into account where both incidents occurred and giving due consideration to both the cumulative effect of the ground and momentum lost by Oh Great (IRE), and the fact that the colt had reduced the margin on San Francisco Bay (IRE) all the way through to the finish line to be beaten by a head, despite being impeded twice, it was determined that San Francisco Bay (IRE) had improved its placing as a result of causing the interference.
The placings were therefore revised accordingly: First, Oh Great (IRE); Second, San Francisco Bay (IRE); Third, Vaxholm (IRE) and Fourth, Alphonse Le Grande (IRE).
The Stewards found the first incident to be accidental as Hardie had been quick to correct his mount which shifted sharply right-handed, however in the second incident Hardie was cautioned for Careless riding, in that he had failed to take sufficient steps to prevent his mount from drifting right-handed.
Following the race, Laura Coughlan reported that Vaxholm (IRE), placed third, hung right-handed rounding the first bend.
Cam Hardie reported that San Francisco Bay (IRE), placed second, ran green when the colt hit the front and the Veterinary Officer reported that the colt finished lame on its left-fore.
Sam Hitchcott reported that Lark Lane (GB), placed eighth, hung left-handed and the representative of Mick Channon reported that the gelding made a noise.
