Approaching the final furlong, Monsieur Lambrays (GB), placed second, hung sharply left-handed away from the whip, taking Fair Star (IRE), placed third, off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Monsieur Lambrays (GB).
Oisin Orr, the rider of Monsieur Lambrays (GB), placed second, was suspended for 2 days for using his whip above the permitted level from 3 furlongs out.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong when the winner, Monsieur Lambrays (GB), ridden by Oisin Orr, interfered with Haliphon (GB), placed second, ridden by Royston Ffrench.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Monsieur Lambrays (GB)' placing as Monsieur Lambrays (GB) had continued to hang left in the final furlong, firstly giving Haliphon (GB) a significant bump and unbalancing the gelding and then continuing to lean on Haliphon (GB) carrying the gelding further left off its intended line, before bumping the gelding again approaching the line.
As a result, the momentum and ground lost lost by Haliphon (GB) because of the interference was more than the head in which it was beaten.
The placings were revised as follows: First – Haliphon (GB), Second – Monsieur Lambrays (GB), Third – Fair Star (IRE), Fourth – Wor Willie (GB).
Orr was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as he failed to take sufficient steps to prevent his horse from hanging left-handed causing significant interference to Haliphon (GB) inside the final furlong.
