Permission was given for Seven Brothers (IRE) and Queen's Sargent (FR) to go early to post and for Russco (IRE) to wear a red hood to the start.
Prior to this race, a query was raised with Donald McCain, the trainer of Russco (IRE), into the reasons why he was running the gelding here at York on going officially described as Good, Good to Firm in places, having been declared a non-runner at York on 13 May 2022 on ground with the same official description.
McCain stated that there were limited opportunities for the gelding and that the owners were happy for Russco (IRE) to take its chance today.
Just inside the final 2 furlongs, Russco (IRE), unplaced, hung left-handed causing Ugo Gregory (GB), unplaced, to be momentarily tightened for room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Inside the final furlong, Russco (IRE), unplaced, hung right-handed leaving Ebury (GB), unplaced, short of racing room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Approximately ½ a furlong out, Tommy Taylor (USA), placed third, hung right-handed causing POET’S MAGIC, unplaced, to be checked momentarily and be shifted off its intended line, which in turn made contact with Ugo Gregory (GB), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Tommy Taylor (USA).
On veterinary advice, Tommy Taylor (USA), placed third, did not enter the winners enclosure.
The performance of Seven Brothers (IRE), which finished unplaced, was considered.
Kevin Ryan’s representative could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance on this occasion.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination during routine testing of Seven Brothers (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, Jack Duern reported that Ebury (GB), unplaced, was denied a clear run on several occasions.
