He handled it very well, jumped very well and was good and tough. I spoke to Ben Harvey last night and he said not to fight him and leave him at it. a couple of years ago he was left at the start here over hurdles and almost won, but went backwards after that. He's difficult to handle and can blow a fuse very quickly. He's big and powerful so it's not simple and today we got him around the parade ring once, got the jockey on and luckily it didn't take too much out of him - it often does before the race. we're delighted and it was a great ride by Phillip. He was keeping better company, maybe too good, but it taught him how to race. He liked the ground and the track. We were hoping he'd do that but we were hoping before that he'd do different things. On his bumper form he's a nice horse. I'm delighted for Paul (Leech), in fairness he comes over whenever all his horses run and had a first and a second today so it's great. He got a small injury which came to light in March 2020. He had run at Christmas time behind Appreciate It but then got that small injury in front. We just gave him loads of time. He's been away and had a schooling race under his belt but is open to an awful lot of improvement. He'll go on softer ground and we can up him in trip as well. This Red Mills series is a great series and Paul actually won the final last year with Surprise Package. Hopefully this lad could end up in the final. He's a gorgeous horse. He was bought completely by mistake at the sales, I was rushing in to buy a horse later on and ended up bidding on him. In fairness when I rang Paul about the horse he took him straight away. There wasn't a suitable chase for him until Christmas but it was always the plan to go back over hurdles. He has won five races and Oliver and Marie are fantastic owners who leave me do my own thing - if there is a mistake made, it is due to me. The horse has built on promise and we let him improve away over fences. That has given him confidence and we are using his hurdle mark at the right time.
