FormscanBy Tom Weekes - APPLE'S JADE races going her favoured right-handed for the first time in five runs today and might bounce back to winning ways with that very much in mind. A top class mare at her best, some of her Grade 1 wins have been gained by unthinkable winning margins of 41L, 9L, 14L, 9L, 20L, 26L, and 16L and while she disappointed in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March, did at least bounce back when a much better third placing over three miles at Aintree last month. She clearly needs to bring her best form today to win but if she does, she has the beating of Supasundae, whom she has walloped twice this season, and possibly Buveur D'air whom Supasundae beat to win at Aintree last month. Supasundae won this race last year and again showed his ability in winning the Aintree Hurdle last month and while clearly a high class hurdler, would prove vulnerable to APPLE'S JADE on her best form. Buveur D'air has been a brilliant horse as a dual Champion Hurdle winner but there does seem a question mark around his form this season. He met with an unexpected defeat in the Christmas Hurdle and while he won his next start and fell early-on at Cheltenham, it was again a little disappointing he was beaten at Aintree. He nonetheless comes here with sound claims and should appreciate the drop back to two miles. Paul Townend rides Melon and while he was in contention when falling at the third last flight in that Aintree race, he did plenty of pace-making to that point. He is a smart performer on his day and while he can prove hit-and-miss, comes here in excellent form but might find a few too good. Wicklow Brave won this race in 2017 and could have a say. He has been a marvellous hurdler for connections, while also winning an Irish St Leger along the way, and while an early faller on his most recent start, he did run a cracker when a narrow second in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham and had previously chased home subsequent Champion Hurdle winner Espoir D'allen at Naas (albeit when receiving 6lbs).
