An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line, involving the winner, Strong Foundations (IRE), ridden by Robert Dunne and Don Virginia (FR), placed second, ridden by Jonjo O’ Neill Jr.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Strong Foundations (IRE)’s placing as having jumped the final hurdle, Don Virginia (FR) made insignificant inroads into the lead of Strong Foundations (IRE), never giving the impression that if given a straight run through to the line it would have finished in front.
Whilst Don Virginia (FR) did close in the final strides, having been taken of its line to be beaten a neck, the Stewards were of the view that this was due to Strong Foundations (IRE) stopping in front when racing greenly, giving the impression having been straightened, that it was going on again.
The Stewards considered that the interference was accidental as Strong Foundations (IRE) shifted quickly left-handed away from the whip before being quickly corrected.
Following the race, Sean Bowen reported that Diamond Geezer (IRE), unplaced, ran green; and Brian Hughes reported that Just Gino (FR), placed fourth, slipped on the bend turning into the home straight.
