An enquiry was held to consider whether Daryl Jacob, the rider of Rockvale (IRE), which finished eleventh of eleven finishers, beaten by 104 ½ lengths and 49 lengths behind Maxiboy Dagrostis (FR), which finished tenth, had continued in the race when the horse had no more to give.
The rider and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Officer stated that Rockvale (IRE), who pulled up sound was later found to be 2/5ths lame during a post-race examination.
The rider explained that prior to racing under rules, Rockvale (IRE) had run in two point to points over a 3 mile trip and that he had raced on this occasion as though he was in need of a longer trip than 2 mile 145 yards.
Jacob reported that having jumped the third last hurdle, Rockvale (IRE) began to race in an indolent manner and that he was satisfied that the gelding was holding enough back to jump the final two hurdles, which it did in its own time and at the one pace.
The rider’s explanation was noted.
Following the race, Joel Parkinson reported that Walk In The Valley (IRE), which was pulled up, was not suited by the Going, which was officially described as Soft and would appreciate a quicker surface; and the Veterinary Officer reported that Land Of Moon (FR), unplaced, lost its left-fore shoe.
