He said if we step him up to a mile that he might be more comfortable. I thought we would get a race out of him on the turf but things just didn’t work out great. Myself and Ronan have been tricking together for a good while but that’s the first winner he’s had with me. P J F Murphy, trainer
R.P. Whelan, rider of Ampeson (GB) trained by P.J.F. Murphy, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung right under pressure
S. Foley, rider of Beleaguerment trained by James McAuley, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount ran short of room a furlong out
R.P. Cleary, rider of Sir Dotti trained by John C. McConnell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount met some interference late on
R. Whearty, rider of Becozurworthadd trained by Christopher David Timmons, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount shied away from the horses on his outer, causing him to hit the running rail
The Stewards enquired into an incident in the closing stages involving Ampeson (GB), ridden by R.P. Whelan, placed first, Beleaguerment, ridden by S. Foley, placed third, Sir Dotti, ridden by R.P. Cleary, placed fifth and Hell Left Loose (GB), ridden by James J. Doyle, placed second, where it appeared both Beleaguerment and Sir Dotti ran short of room and had to check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. R. P. Whelan stated that his mount drifted when it hit the front. S. Foley stated that he suffered interference and had to check but it did not affect his finishing position. R. P. Cleary stated that he suffered some interference. James J. Doyle stated that his mount drifted slightly. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards took no further action other than to advise R. P. Whelan and James J. Doyle to ride with more awareness in the future.
