The Stewards held an enquiry to consider the apparent improvement in form of the winner, Coral Blue (IRE), ridden by Isabel Williams and trained by Daragh Bourke, compared with its previous run at Ayr on 2 January 2022 where the gelding was pulled up.
They interviewed the trainer.
The trainer stated that the gelding was found to have scoped dirty on returning home following its run at Ayr.
The Stewards noted the explanation but as the trainer had failed to report this fact earlier and the Handicapper had dropped the horse’s rating by 5lb in the absence of any report, they fined him £650.
The performance of Jelski (GER), which finished eighth of eleven, beaten 26 ½ lengths, was considered.
James Moffatt’s explanation that the gelding was outpaced over 2 miles 3 furlongs at Catterick was noted.
