Permission was given for Passional (GB) to be mounted in the chute.
Passional (GB), trained by Stuart Williams, was late in the Parade Ring due to Sean Levey being late to weigh out having ridden in the previous race.
Coronation Cottage (GB), trained by Malcolm Saunders, was late in the Parade Ring due to Liam Keniry being late to weigh out having ridden in the previous race.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Monsieur Patat (GB), ridden by Darragh Keenan and trained by Robyn Brisland, which raced at the rear of the field before being asked for an effort approximately 3 furlongs out, whereupon the gelding stayed on well to finish fifth, beaten by 4½ lengths.
The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Monsieur Patat (GB) shortly after the race failed to reveal any abnormalities other than the gelding had lost its right-fore shoe and its left-fore shoe was also loose.
The rider stated his instructions had been to take his time, get Monsieur Patat (GB) to settle as the gelding has a history of racing keenly and finish his race as best as possible from there.
He stated that after jumping off at the rear, he was happy with his early position but had opted to go for a run up the Stands side rail where, in his opinion, there is often a bias at Lingfield Park.
He added that Monsieur Patat (GB) was outpaced and became unbalanced on the Good to Firm, Good in places going, a fact he had reported at Scales, which caused him to make his effort towards the centre of the track and the gelding made strong late headway in the final furlong and enjoyed passing horses.
The trainer confirmed the instructions and stated that he was satisfied the ride accorded with those instructions, adding that despite in his opinion it being a messy race he was pleased with the run and Monsieur Patat (GB) may benefit from a return to 6 furlongs and easier ground.
He further added that depending on how the gelding came out of this race he may have a break and wait for softer ground later in the year.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Sean Levey reported that Passional (GB), placed seventh, hung left-handed.
