An enquiry was held to consider whether Daniel Sansom, the rider of Plantagenet (GB), trained by Seamus Mullins, which fell at the last fence, had continued in the race when the horse appeared to be very tired.
The rider, the trainer, and the Veterinary Surgeon were interviewed and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Surgeon stated that the gelding was down for a period of time but had recovered well.
The rider’s explanation that Plantagenet (GB) jumped the second last fence cleanly and only became tired a few strides before the last, was accepted.
Following the race Sarah Humphrey's representative reported that The Happy Chappy, which was pulled up, had a breathing problem.
