The Stewards noted that Harry Russell, the rider of Mutabaahy (IRE), placed third, did remove the blindfold in a timely manner, however it had then landed across the rider’s face, inconveniencing him for the first couple of strides.
The winner, Follow Your Heart (IRE), appeared to show an improvement in form compared with its previous run at Pontefract on 28 May 2021, where the gelding finished last of four, beaten 14¼ lengths.
Kevin Ryan’s representative explained that Follow Your Heart (IRE) benefitted from this being its first run in handicap company and also appreciated the step-up in trip to 5 furlongs 143 yards on this occasion.
The gelding was routine tested.
Following the race, Paula Muir reported that The Armed Man (GB), placed fourth, was denied a clear run and Ben Robinson reported that MECCA’S HOT STEPS, unplaced, stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the filly failed to reveal any abnormalities.
