Permission was given for Bengali Boys (IRE) to go early to post.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference over the final furlong involving the winner, Spring Romance (IRE), ridden by Joey Haynes and Zumurud (IRE), placed second, ridden by Adam Kirby.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Spring Romance (IRE)’s placing, in that although Zumurud (IRE) was carried off its intended line, the ground and momentum lost as a result equated to less than the beaten margin of a neck and Zumurud (IRE) was being held on the run to the line.
Haynes was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift right over a considerable distance without sufficient correction, causing interference to Zumurud (IRE).
The performance of Miracle Garden (GB), which finished eighth, was considered.
Ian Williams’ representative could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
Miracle Garden (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, George Downing reported that Bengali Boys (IRE), unplaced, hung left and Joey Haynes reported that the winner, Spring Romance (IRE), hung right under pressure.
Royston Ffrench reported that Case Key (GB), unplaced, stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
