An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final furlong when the winner, Spanish Star (IRE), ridden by William Carver, drifted right-handed taking ATALANTA’S BOY, placed second, ridden by Thomas Greatrex, off its intended line.
The Stewards considered that the interference had improved Spanish Star (IRE)’s placing as the second was carried right-handed across the course for some considerable distance and was beaten a neck and revised the placings as follows: First, ATALANTA’S BOY, Second, Spanish Star (IRE), Third, National Glory (IRE) and Fourth, The Lamplighter (FR).
Carver was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as he had allowed his horse to drift right, away from the whip, without correction.
**Notice amended on 24 May 2019 to include the winning distance** The Clerk of the Scales reported that Katherine Begley, the rider of Deer Song (GB), unplaced, trained by John Bridger, had weighed in at 8 stone 9 lbs having weighed out at 8 stone 7 lbs.
The rider, the trainer’s representative and the Clerk of the Scales were interviewed.
Begley was suspended for 1 day for weighing in at more than 2lb overweight.
Following the race Katherine Begley reported that Deer Song (GB), unplaced, hung right-handed.
William Cox reported that Born To Finish (IRE), unplaced, was never travelling.
Isobel Francis reported that Bullseye Bullet (GB), unplaced, moved poorly.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Bullseye Bullet (GB) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Real Estate (IRE), placed fifth, was lame left fore.
