An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference for some distance passing the 1 furlong marker involving the winner, Firebomb (GB), ridden by Gianluca Sanna and Angle Land (GB), placed second, ridden by Daniel Tudhope.
Being a 7lb claimer, Sanna was accompanied in the enquiry by trainer Bryan Smart.
After hearing evidence from all parties and viewing recordings of the interference, it was established that in the lead up to the incident Angle Land (GB) and Firebomb (GB) were both hanging left- handed independently, before Firebomb (GB) eventually continued to hang left-handed and intimidated Angle Land (GB) several horse widths off its intended line.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Firebomb (GB) as there was no contact between the runners, with Tudhope never being obliged to stop riding and Angle Land (GB) appeared to lose minimal momentum as a result of being carried left-handed.
Furthermore near the ½ furlong marker Angle Land (GB) arguably held a slight margin advantage over Firebomb (GB), before being outbattled on the run to the line and beaten by a neck.
Sanna was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as he had taken insufficient steps to prevent his mount from drifting left, thereby causing interference to Firebomb (GB).
Following the race, Cam Hardie reported that Just Another (IRE), placed fourth, was fractious in the stalls.
Jack Duern reported that Roystan Girl (GB), placed eighth, was outpaced throughout and Andrew Mullen reported that Three Dons (IRE), unplaced, was never travelling.
