Having been examined by the Veterinary Surgeon, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
The winner, FINBAR’S LAD, appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at York on 27 May 2023 where the gelding finished fifteenth of nineteen, beaten by 11 lengths.
The explanation from John Quinn’s representative that FINBAR’S LAD had had a 278-day break prior to its York appearance and stripped fitter for that run was noted.
FINBAR’S LAD was routine tested.
The performance of Bobby Dassler (IRE), which finished fifth, was considered.
The representative of Tom Ward could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Leaving the stalls, Counsel (GB), placed fourth, jumped right-handed causing interference to Dandys Derriere (GB), unplaced, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved, and that it had not improved the placing of Counsel (GB).
Following the race, Paul Mulrennan reported that Trais Fluors (GB), placed third, was slowly away.
Clifford Lee reported that Counsel (GB), placed fourth, jumped right from the stalls and hung right-handed in the straight and Ray Dawson reported that Olympicus (USA), unplaced, ran too freely.
