The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Ms A. O'Keeffe, that N.M. Crosse, rider of Romantically, failed to present himself to be weighed out within the appointed time for this race. Evidence was heard from Mr. E. Dempsey, Authorised Representative of Mr. W. McCreery, trainer of Romantically, who stated that due to confusion earlier in the morning, N.M. Crosse was not present at the racecourse, and he also requested permission for W.J. Lee to substitute N.M. Crosse. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards, under Rule 195, allowed Romantically to run and to be ridden by W.J. Lee. The Stewards were satisfied that N.M. Crosse was in breach of Rule 196 in that he failed to present himself to be weighed out before the appointed time, and they therefore fined him ?200. The Stewards also reminded Mr. W. McCreery,through his Authorised Representative, of a trainer's responsibilities under Rule 153 (i) to ensure that where his apprentice has a riding arrangement that he is present on the racecourse in adequate time to fulfil that engagement
