I would have been delighted if he had been placed and I'd say the ground going a bit softer probably inconvenienced some of the others. I thought he was going to be tailed off half a mile out, but in fairness the last day was the only bad run he's had and the plan now is for the Galway Hurdle and as far as I know Davy Condon will ride him there. The Stewards requested a report from Gordon Elliott, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Bayan, placed first, as compared with its recent form. The trainer's representative reported that the horse disappointed on his last start but was then given a break and freshened up. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered. F.M. Berry, rider of Stocktons Wing, trained by Charles O'Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung left in running.

An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards (85 = 10st)
Penalties - -(after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra for each race won Any horse rated above 85 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 85 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 85 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
