On the approach to the first hurdle, Jakamani (GB), which was pulled up, hung sharply right-handed, inconveniencing the winner, Ambassador (IRE) which galloped into the back of Jakamani (GB), causing the latter to lose its action, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Jumping the first hurdle, Sir Canford (IRE), placed fourth, slowed significantly and shifted into the path of Kracquer (GB) which was badly hampered, causing its saddle to slip and in turn unseat its jockey, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Sir Canford (IRE).
The performance of Tonto Foley (IRE) which started second favourite and was pulled up, was considered.
The representative of Christian Williams could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Tonto Foley (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, James Best reported that African Sun (IRE), unplaced, hung left-handed and jumped left-handed and Jay Tidball reported that his saddle had slipped on Kracquer (GB) causing him to be unseated.
