We were drawn 11 and 12 and the middle is the worse place to be, so we took a chance and it worked out. The ease in the ground helped as she needs an ease in the ground. We tried different things with hoods as she over-raced once or twice and it all came together today. J A Stack, trainer
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final two furlongs involving Apricot Ice, ridden by G.F
Carroll, unplaced, Firebird (GB), ridden by W.J. Lee, placed second, and Wide With Delight, ridden by B.M
Coen, unplaced where it appeared interference may have occurred. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned
In his evidence B.M. Coen stated that he received contact from his outside forcing him to check. G.F. Carroll stated that his filly rolled right and left but felt it was marginal. W.J. Lee stated that the movement of Apricot Ice forced him left causing him to make contact with Wide With Delight inside him. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that the incident was caused by Apricot Ice momentarily hanging left after Firebird had committed to filling the gap resulting in Wide With Delight running short of room and did not apportion blame to any rider and therefore took no further action
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Nighteyes, trained by David O'Meara (in GB), at the request of the Raceday Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal. Samples were taken for analysis.
