Rikoboy (FR), trained by Dr Richard Newland, had arrived in the Parade Ring without its declared tongue strap, which was then located and fitted on the gelding before going to the start.
Newland was cautioned.
An enquiry was held to consider the near fall at the final fence of Grey Diamond (FR), ridden by Jack Tudor, which made a very bad mistake and sprawled on landing, before being allowed to cross the finish line, finishing last of the seven runners.
Tudor and the Veterinary Officer were interviewed, and recordings of the incident were viewed.
The Veterinary Officer stated that a post-race examination of Grey Diamond (FR) failed to reveal any abnormalities at walk, but at the trot the gelding was very slightly lame on its left hind, showing 1/5 on the scale.
Tudor explained that he felt the gelding get to its feet quickly without any ill effects and having walked and trotted soundly away, he was satisfied that Grey Diamond (FR) was fit to complete the short distance to the finish line.
The Stewards were satisfied that he had taken time to assess the gelding and allowed Grey Diamond (FR) to cross the finish line in its own time and therefore noted his explanation.
Following the race, Charlie Hammond reported that Rikoboy (FR), placed second, jumped left-handed and Ned Fox reported that DESQUE DE L’ISLE (FR), placed fifth, ran too free and hung badly left throughout.
