See also » Love-bowing-out-as-Betty-Zane-wins-easily-at-251 I'm having my last two runners tomorrow if they get the papers right for Ciaran (Murphy) to take over so this is a lovely way to finish. I started 20 years ago with a winner so this is a nice way to bow out and I'd like Ciaran to get started. We're doing a role-reversal and I'll be assistant - I'll be the general dog's body and driving the van!. She is a lovely mare. We brought her schooling two weeks ago and she did it like that and when he gave her a squeeze today she just said .well, I'll go faster!.. We always thought a bit of her but she had a few issues with her wind so we gave her a long time off and got it fixed. It is lovely for the owner and Aaron has been on a good diet to ride her. He rides her at home, gets on well with her and is a top head lad for us. Today's win is an extended family affair. Mrs D A Love, trainer
The Stewards enquired into the circumstances surrounding a substantial early lead gained by Betty Zane, ridden by Mr. A. Murphy, who subsequently won this race involving Angels Dawn, ridden by Mr D. O'Connor, Dukes Mill, ridden by Miss S. Ahern, Feddans, ridden by Mr T. Feeney, Our Miss Power, ridden by Mr J.C. Barry, Back On The Bridle, ridden by Mr S. Fenelon, Birthday Bayeb, ridden by Jack Brendan Foley, California Breeze, ridden by Mr F. Maguire, Cute Cherry (GB), ridden by Mr J.J. Codd, Economic Reactor, ridden by Mr J. Hogan, and Joyful Kit, ridden by Mr M.K. Tobin. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned who were of the view that although the winner had gained an early lead they felt that they had got close enough in the home straight before the winner sprinted away again Mr. D. O'Connor reported that his instructions were to get cover early on. He added that the winner was keen early which brought about an early lead. He added that he felt the winner would come back to them on todays ground but felt that the winner showed a good turn of foot going to the line Ms. S. Ahern stated that her instructions were to settle with cover as her mount has made the running previously and faded in the closing stages
Jack Brendan Foley reported that his instructions were to jump off towards the rear as his mount has been very keen in the past but that his mount still tired badly before the turn in Mr. T. Feeney reported that his instructions were to settle towards the rear and get cover in order to get home on the testing ground
Mr. J. C. Barry reported that his mount can be very keen and he was instructed to jump off three quarters way back and let the race unfold from there
Mr. S. Fenelon reported that his instructions were to jump off mid way and settle his mount
Mr. F. Maguire reported that his instructions were to jump off in third or fourth. His said his mount can be very keen and difficult to settle and when he settled his mount he waited for company to track down the winner
Mr. J. J. Codd reported that he wanted to be third or fourth. He felt had winner had broke very smart and he had expected the winner to come back at some point. He concluded by saying that when the field got close to the winner it quickly went away again in the closing stages
Mr. J. Hogan reported that his instructions were to settle his mount and he added that his mount did not handle the ground throughout
Mr. M. K. Tobin reported that his instructions were to settle his mount in mid field and added that he was unable to go any quicker
Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations given
