Permission was given for Captain Kane (GB) to wear a red hood to the start.
Shortly after the start, Surrey Territories (IRE), unplaced, lugged quickly left-handed into the path of Lanfear (FR), unplaced, caused that filly to stumble, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference entering the home straight involving the winner, Captain Kane (GB), ridden by Ben Curtis, Mutara (GB), placed fouth, ridden by James Doyle and The Writer (GB), placed second, ridden by Daniel Muscutt.
Muscutt was cautioned for careless riding as after correcting his mount from hanging left-handed, he angled right-handed for a number of strides off the bend when insufficiently clear briefly crowding Captain Kane (GB) and causing it to make contact with Mutara (GB), which became unbalanced when carried off its intended line.
Approaching 1 furlong out, Gypsy Lady (GB), unplaced, edged slightly left-handed briefly carrying Sous Surveillance (GB), unplaced, onto Laoch Gach La (GB), unplaced, which was eased by its rider when tightened for racing room on the rail, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
Approaching 1 furlong out, The Writer (GB), placed second, shifted quickly left-handed whilst racing greenly, crowding Surrey Territories (IRE), unplaced, onto Another Odyssey (GB), placed fifth, which was inconvenienced but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved, nor had it improved the placing of The Writer (GB).
Following the race, Daniel Muscutt reported that The Writer (GB), placed second, hung both ways.
