Ryan was biding his time and he said at the two (furlongs) marker she came alive for him when he wanted her. He gave her a peach, he filled her with confidence. He said going to the start he knew she was different, obviously she loves that ease in the ground. The Raceday Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of Gooloogong, trained by A.P.O'Brien, concerning his riding in the closing stages where he appeared to stop riding about one hundred yards from the finish when racing in sixth place and got passed by Yashin in the final strides. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, J.A. Heffernan stated that his mount had not run since the 29th March and he had been driving the colt from six furlongs out to a point near the finish where he became unbalanced and had nothing left to offer. Having viewed the recording and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards took no further action
S. Foley, rider of Yashin, trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount did not handle the ground.
