Permission was given for Tenth Century (GB) to go early to post wearing a red hood and to be mounted on the chute and for Beatrix Enchante (GB) to go early to post.
The Veterinary Officer reported that upon inspection, Rocky Sea (IRE) was a gelding and not a colt as published in the racecard.
Leaving the stalls, Amalfi Salsa (IRE), placed fifth, jumped right causing Beatrix Enchante (GB), unplaced, to be momentarily short of room, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Amalfi Salsa (IRE).
An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after the start when DYLAN’S RUBY, unplaced, ridden by George Downing, interfered with Quoteline Direct (GB), placed fourth, ridden by Aiden Brookes.
Being a 7lb claiming apprentice, Brookes was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
Downing was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift left- handed without sufficient correction, causing Quoteline Direct (GB) to clip heels and stumble.
An enquiry was held to consider interference passing the 1 furlong marker in the home straight on the first circuit involving Tenth Century (GB), placed sixth, ridden by Charlie Bennett, Uther Pendragon (IRE), placed third, ridden by Liam Keniry, and DYLAN’S RUBY, unplaced, ridden by George Downing.
The interference was found to be accidental as prior to this George Downing was struggling to restrain his very free-running mount, who continued to resist his attempts to gain cover in behind Keniry and Bennett, who were both moving in towards the rail whilst being attentive as to the runners to their inside, resulting in Dylan's Ruby (GB) becoming short of room and having to be checked.
Passing the winning post on the first circuit, the free-running Amalfi Salsa (IRE), placed fifth, momentarily edged left causing William Cox, the rider of the free-running Air Of York (IRE), unplaced, to take a check which in turn caused George Downing, the rider of the free-running DYLAN’S RUBY, unplaced, to ease his mount, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Amalfi Salsa (IRE).
Turning in, Grace McEntee, the rider of the quickly weakening Beatrix Enchante (GB), unplaced, had to precautionarily ease her mount as DYLAN’S RUBY, unplaced, on her outside, and Air Of York (IRE), unplaced, on her inside, moved past her mount, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Quoteline Direct (GB), ridden by Aiden Brookes and trained by Micky Hammond, who suffered interference shortly after the start, leading to him being held up at the rear of the field and tenderly ridden until approaching the final furlong, when he was asked for an effort to finish fourth of eleven, beaten by 2 lengths.
Brookes was interviewed and shown recordings of the race, and Hammond was interviewed by telephone.
The Veterinary Officer reported a post-race examination of Quoteline Direct (GB) failed to reveal any abnormalities other than a wound on its right fore.
Brookes stated that his instructions were to ride the gelding in mid-field and to ask for his finishing effort as late as possible as the gelding tends to find very little.
He explained that he suffered interference shortly after the start, resulting in him clipping a heel and being shuffled to the back of field, therefore starting the race in a less than an ideal position.
He further explained that turning into home straight, the front five runners had gone a couple of lengths clear of the rest of the fie
