Permission was given for Mordin (IRE) to wear a hood in the parade ring and Big Kitten (USA) wore earplugs which were removed at the start.
The winner, Pivoine (IRE), appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Ascot on 21 June 2019 where the gelding finished eighteenth of nineteen, beaten by 41 lengths.
It was noted that the representative of Andrew Balding could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form, other than Pivoine (IRE) was suited by a return to York in their opinion.
Pivoine (IRE) was routine tested.
David Nolan, the rider of Waarif (IRE), was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start.
Nolan’s explanation that the blind took two attempts to remove it was noted.
An enquiry was held to consider interference shortly after leaving the stalls when Setting Sail (GB), placed second, ridden by Jamie Spencer interfered with Leroy Leroy (GB), unplaced, ridden by Rachel Richardson.
Spencer was suspended for 2 days as he had allowed his mount to drift left when insufficiently clear taking Leroy Leroy (GB) off its intended line and causing Richardson to check.
Leaving the stalls, Setting Sail (GB), placed second, jumped left crowding Francis Xavier (IRE), unplaced, for room and causing the rider of Mordin (IRE), unplaced, to briefly take back but after viewing a recording of the incident it was found that no riding offence was involved, and it had not improved the placing of Setting Sail (GB).
Following the race, Robert Havlin reported that Stylehunter (GB), which started favourite and finished unplaced, missed the break.
The gelding was routine tested.
