Gabrial The One (IRE), trained by Richard Fahey, finished fourth at Chester the previous day.
Having been examined by the Veterinary Officer, the gelding was deemed fit to race.
Entering the first bend, Hasanabad (IRE), which was later pulled up, was steadied when short of room between Nuits St Georges (IRE), placed fifth, which was hanging right-handed and Red Derek (GB), placed sixth, which edged slightly left-handed, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Nuits St Georges (IRE) or Red Derek (GB).
The Stewards noted that going out onto the final circuit, both the winner, Au Clair De Lune (IRE), and Mr Curiosity (GB), placed third, were badly hampered when Hasanabad (IRE), went amiss.
Approximately 2 furlongs out, a weakening Nuits St Georges (IRE), placed fifth, which was hanging right-handed, had to be eased to avoid the heels of Mr Curiosity (GB), placed third, which had edged slightly left-handed, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Mr Curiosity (GB).
Jamie Spencer, the rider of Mr Curiosity (GB), placed third, was suspended for 2 days for using his whip in the incorrect place rounding the home bend.
The performance of Nuits St Georges (IRE), which started second-favourite and finished fifth, was considered.
David Nolan reported that the gelding was never travelling and hung right-handed throughout and the representative of David Menuisier’s explanation that Nuits St Georges (IRE) appeared to be unsuited by the tight nature of the track, was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Following the race, Tom Queally reported that Supakalanistic (IRE), unplaced, stopped quickly and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
