Rounding the bend going onto final circuit, a free running Blue Daisy (GB), placed fourth, had to be restrained after running up the inside of Faithful Spirit (GB), placed fifth, into a gap where there was insufficient room but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
An enquiry was held to consider interference inside the final furlong involving Faithful Spirit (GB), placed fifth, ridden by John Fahy and Never In Fourth (GB), unplaced, ridden by William Carson.
Fahy was suspended for 3 days for careless riding as he took insufficient steps to prevent his mount from hanging left-handed into his whip which resulted in Carson being carried off his intended line and ultimately having to take a check.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Kells (IRE), ridden by Andrew Mullen and trained by Tony Carroll, which travelled well mid division but was tenderly ridden turning for home and in the early part of the home straight.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post race examination of KELLIS (IRE), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions were to achieve his best possible placing and to try to get the gelding to settle as it had raced too freely on its previous run.
He explained that the early pace of the race was a strong one and Kells (IRE) had settled and travelled well as a result but, rounding the final bend, he found himself caught on the rail and lost ground when the leaders kicked for home.
In explaining his ride in the home straight he said that Kells (IRE) had failed to pick up when asked and had flattened out, making no in-roads on the leaders in the closing stages which led him to suggest that with the gelding settling better on this occasion, it might benefit from a step back up in trip.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, Billy Loughnane reported that Arcadian Nights (GB), unplaced, was slowly away and that the gelding was denied a clear run in the final ½ furlong.
Graham Lee reported that King Carney (GB), unplaced, was denied a clear run in the final ½ furlong.
