Permission was given for Grand Du Nord (FR) and WHERE’S HECTOR to both wear a red hood in the preliminaries.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference after the last hurdle involving the winner Santos Blue (GB), ridden by Ben Sutton and Sporting Mike (IRE), placed second, ridden by Kielan Woods.
Sutton being a 7lb claiming amateur, he was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Santos Blue (GB)’s placing as the gelding always appeared to be holding Sporting Mike (IRE), which was carried slightly off its line and never lost any momentum to be beaten by ½ a length at the line.
Sutton was cautioned for careless riding as he failed to take steps sufficient to prevent his mount from drifting right- handed carrying Sporting Mike (IRE) marginally off its intended line.
The apparent improvement in form of the winner Santos Blue (GB) which had never previously been placed, was considered.
The Stewards noted the explanation given by the representative of Dan Skelton that the gelding had benefitted from the reapplication of a tongue strap on this occasion.
Following the line, Jamie Hamilton reported that FENNA’S LOSS (IRE), which was pulled up, weakened quickly; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination during routine testing of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.
