Permission was given for both Grandscape (GB) and Dream Point (IRE) to go early to post.
Approaching the final furlong the rider of Against The Odds (GB), placed second, attempted to take a tight but legitimate gap between Ghostly (GB), placed fourth, and CHARLIE’S YARD, placed fifth, before Ghostly (GB) then leant left-handed onto Against The Odds (GB) and CHARLIE’S YARD stepped slightly right- handed, which resulted in Against The Odds (GB) making contact with the hindquarters of Ghostly (GB) which became badly unbalanced and shifted right-handed hampering the winner King Charles (USA).
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final ½ furlong involving the winner King Charles (USA), ridden by Miss Jessica Llewellyn and Against The Odds (GB), placed second, ridden by Mr Rob Hargreaves.
Being 7lb claimers, Miss Llewellyn and Mr Hargreaves were offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
After viewing recordings of the incident and hearing evidence from both riders, it was established that King Charles (USA) had drifted left-handed under a right-handed drive and into the path of Against The Odds (GB) which was carried approximately 1½ horse widths off its intended line, before receiving a light bump.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved King Charles (USA) placing as Mr Hargreaves never had to stop riding and the material extent of the interference suffered by Against The Odds (GB) was of a relatively minor nature, with a minimal loss of ground and momentum before being comfortably held on the run to the line and beaten by a head margin.
Miss Llewellyn was suspended for 2 days for careless riding as she had taken insufficient steps to prevent or correct King Charles (USA) from drifting left- handed, thereby causing interference to Against The Odds (GB).
Miss Jessica Llewellyn, the rider of the winner, King Charles (USA), was suspended for 13 days for using her whip above the permitted level from 1 ½ furlongs out.
Following the race, Miss Lauren Sanders reported that Williamwilberforce (GB), unplaced, was slowly away.
