Perhaps a mixture of the 102-rated In The Loop showing improvement and the principals failing to live up to their marks here.

The former hunter chaser attracted support (14/1 to 8/1) and proved a tough nut to crack. He improved to lead five out and battled well when challenged at the second last.

Trainer Roy Wilson will aim the gelding at the Scottish National. He had shown good form when chasing home Agus A Vic here in December before a fall at Thurles.

His last run at Downpatrick restored his confidence according to the handler who added that the son of Lord Americo "stays all day."

Dun Doire (rated 137) looked set to claim the spoils when looming large on the run to the second last. He may have got his head in front briefly but came under pressure before the last and had no more to offer on the run-in.

Point Barrow (rated 139) moved up to challenge turning for home but soon emptied before the second last and couldn't find another gear.

Ardlea Star had taken them along at a strong gallop but was headed five out and weakened after the next. Chill Out was still a close third when falling five out.
