The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Burren Song, ridden by O. Shanahan, and trained by Andrew Slattery. Evidence was heard from the rider and Brian Slattery, Authorised representative for the trainer concerned
O. Shanahan, stated that her instructions were to jump out and settle Burren Song, get a nice position and try and get him to finish out the race. She added that the race went well in the main however just before turning in he did drop off the main body at which point she started urging him along and kept riding him hands and heels to the line
Mr. Slattery confirmed the instructions given but accepted that the horse may have finished closer with a stronger ride. The Stewards also received a report from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer who stated that Burren Song was post race normal. Samples were taken for further analysis. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations of the trainers Autorised representative, Brian Slattery, however they were satisfied that O. Shanahan was in breach of Rule 212A(ii)(timely, real and substantial effort) by riding her horse in such a way that her horse could not be seen to have been the subject of a genuine attempt to obtain from the horse timely, real and substantial efforts to achieve the best possible place. Having considered her record, the Stewards suspended O. Shanahan for 10 racedays and ordered her to forfeit her riding fee. Furthermore in accordance with Rule 212C(d), the Stewards suspended Burren Song for 42 days
