An enquiry was held to consider why Tony Carroll was running Doc Sportello (IRE) here at Ascot on going described as Good to Firm, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Brighton on 9 August 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The representative of the trainer stated that, in the trainer’s opinion, the ground at Brighton had been riding faster than officially described and been showing signs of wear, having been raced on the previous two days.
Permission was given for Equiano Springs (GB) to go early to post.

The Veterinary Officer reported that In The Red (IRE), unplaced, lost its right hind shoe.
The performance of A Sure Welcome (GB), which finished unplaced, beaten by 11 lengths, was considered.
John Spearing’s explanation that the gelding had been drawn on the wrong side was noted.
