Billy Lee was the obvious rider as his horse didn't run and instead of going two-and-a-half hours to Gowran Park, it only took half-an-hour travelling here!. It has been a great day as Susan's 11 year old daughter Lucia (Keane, grand daughter) won an international show-jumping competition at Chepstow today, beating teams from England and Scotland. Augustine Leahy, trainer
Following a request from broadcasters, the Raceday Stewards granted permission for a two minute delay to this race C. Stone-Walsh, rider of Jazzy Dancer, trained by W.J. Martin, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount drifted left one furlong down
The Raceday Stewards interviewed C.P. Hoban, rider of Samrogue, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who accepted that he was in breach of R10 and apologised for his actions. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were satisfied that C.P. Hoban was in breach of Regulation 10.3(g)(frequency) and having considered his record they suspended him for five racedays
J.A. Heffernan, rider of Californiagoldrush, trained by Kevin Thomas Coleman, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount met with interference in the closing stages
C.P. Hoban, rider of Samrogue, trained by Ross O'Sullivan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount idoled in front and went left under pressure
The Raceday Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages involving Californiagoldrush, ridden by J.A. Heffernan, placed sixth, and Samrogue, ridden by C.P. Hoban, placed second, where it appeared that Californiagoldrush had to severely check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. J. A. Heffernan stated that he met with interference from his outside causing him to check, and added that he was unsure if the incident had cost him a better finishing position. C.P. Hoban stated that his mount drifted left for company in the closing stages and stated that he had changed his whip for correction, but accepted that he could have done more with his left hand to help straighten his mount. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that while Samrogue had caused interference to Californiagoldrush she did not improve her finishing position as a result of this interference, so they made no alteration to the Judge’s placings. They were, however, of the opinion that C. P.Hoban was in breach of Rule 214 (careless riding) and having considered his record they suspended him for four racedays
The Raceday Stewards requested a report from Ross O'Sullivan, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Samrogue, placed second, as compared with its recent form. Ross O'Sullivan reported that his charge had been very unruly from stalls recently resulting in her missing the break and being slowly away. Since her last run in Naas he has done extensive stalls work with Samrogue which contributed to her breaking well today. Furthermore he stated that her last run in Naas was over a five furlongs and her previous runs in the Curragh and Navan were on heavy ground. Todays distance of six furlongs and the good ground combined with Samrogue's improved behaviour in the stalls resulted to her apparent improvement in form. Having considered the evidence the Raceday Stewards noted the content of the report.
