The Stewards enquired into the running and riding of Bracebridge Hall, ridden by D.P. Linehan, and trained by J.P
Murtagh. Evidence was heard from the rider and trainer concerned. D.P. Linehan, stated that his instructions were to sit in the box seat, follow the leaders and ride his race from there. His horse became a little worked up before the start. He travelled well in the first half of the race but in the straight his mount was a little reluctant when coming under pressure, backed off and weakened. Regarding his whip use, the rider stated that he used the whip down the shoulder, and twice behind the saddle with the first attempt to use the whip behind the saddle not landing due to entanglement with a fellow rider's whip. He felt his mount may benefit from the application of head gear in the future. J.P. Murtagh, confirmed the instructions and expressed his satisfaction with the ride given. He stated that this horse has faded when ridden close to the pace in the past. He instructed his rider to keep his horse on the bridle for as long as possible and to come and quicken with one short run. He felt his charge carried his head a little high and may have found the surface a little on the quick side. Evidence was also heard from Mark Bird, Turf Club Handicapper. The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer who reported that this horse was post race normal. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered. They also advised D.P. Linehan to be seen to make more substantial effort in the straight in future
