He got in trouble around the bottom bend but did it to perfection. I fancied him coming if he got his ground, and he battled well. Driving down it was raining solid from Waterford and I thought our chance was gone so was surprised how good the ground was when I walked it. I was confident he'd leave the Galway run behind him as he didn't handle the track. We'll stick left-handed and he'll rock on to the Listowel Hurdle now — he has course form there. Mark's parents are here today and that's important and is great to see. You'd like to see more of a crowd but we'll get there eventually. Eoin Griffin, trainer
The Stewards received a report from the Clerk of the Scales, Mr. P. L. Malone, that D.P. Maxwell, rider of Highstreet Roller, had presented himself to weigh out at two pounds overweight in excess of the two pounds already declared at declaration time. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned who stated that there was a discrepancy between his scales at home and the scales on track. Evidence was also heard from Thomas Gibney, trainer, who stated that there was no other rider available despite his best efforts to secure one and a failure to allow the overweight would result in him having to withdraw his charge, which he did not want to do. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards under the provisions of Rule 196(vii)(b), allowed the overweight on this occasion. They were, however, satisfied that D. P. Maxwell was in breach of Rule 195(i)(c) and Rule 198 and having considered D. P. Maxwell's record in this regard the Stewards fined him €150 on this occasion
The Stewards received a request from Gillian Ryan, Authorised representative for John Patrick Ryan, trainer of Bonarc, to substitute the nominated rider C.P. McNamara, with R. P. Treacy, due to C. P. McNamara failing to present to weigh out. Evidence was also heard from R. P. Treacy who stated that he would be weighing out at three pounds overweight. Having considered the evidence and the lack of a suitable replacement, the Stewards pursuant to the provisions of Rule 198(vii)(b), allowed the overweight on this occasion and authorised the substitution of rider in accordance with the provisions of Rule 196(iv)
The Stewards interviewed C.P. McNamara, rider, concerning his failure to present to weigh out on Bonarc, trained by John Patrick Ryan, in this race, which resulted in a substitution of rider. C. P. McNamara stated that he left in plenty of time but his journey took over double the normal journey time due to heavy traffic. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that C. P. McNamara was in breach of Rule 196(i) and having considered C. P. McNamara's record in this regard and pursuant to the provisions of Rule 196(v) they fined C. P. McNamara €200 on this occasion
The Stewards enquired into an incident approaching the third last involving Wouldn't You Agree, ridden by M.M
McDonagh, placed first and Bonarc, ridden by R. P. Treacy, unplaced, where it appeared that Wouldn't You Agree got tight for room. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. M. M. McDonagh stated that he felt there was room down the inner as the horse in front of him rolled out. R. P. Treacy stated that he had the inside racing line and pulled out when M. M. McDonagh shouted at him. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that R. P. Treacy was in breach of Rule 214, in that he had ridden improperly. Having considered R. P. Treacy's record in this regard the Stewards suspended R. P. Treacy for three racedays
J.C. Gainford, rider of Call Me Lyreen trained by Mrs Denise Foster, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount did not handle the track
