An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Rivabodiva (IRE), ridden by Patrick Wadge and trained by Lucinda Russell, which was held up towards the rear of the field and appeared to be tenderly handled from leaving the back straight, before pulling up before the last flight.
The rider and the representative of Lucinda Russell were interviewed and shown recordings of the race and the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination revealed a minor wound to its left hind and was very slightly lame left hind.
The rider stated that his instructions were to hold the mare up in rear to regain the mare’s confidence by passing horses and to not resort to using his whip as the mare had become sour.
He added that he had asked the mare for an effort by squeezing to encourage Rivabodiva (IRE) along but half way down the back straight as the pace picked up he was unable to maintain his position and became detached.
Wadge further added that coming up the hill he became further detached and therefore felt prudent to pull up the mare.
The representative of the trainer was satisfied that the ride accorded with the instructions given.
Their explanations were noted.
The performance of Golden Chancer (GB), which was pulled up, was considered.
Daragh Bourke could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance other than a report from Alain Cawley that Golden Chancer (GB) stopped quickly.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Golden Chancer (GB) during routine testing failed to reveal any abnormalities.
