Being drawn 17 I thought that he'd have to be good to win from out there and it was great that he did,. He's a nicely bred horse, he's a Study Of Man who was a very good racehorse and a very well-bred horse, out of a Galileo mare whose dam won the Yorkshire Oaks. It's great to have Vimal as an owner, it's my first runner for him. We bought the horse at the sales. P Twomey, trainer
The Raceday Stewards enquired into an incident inside the final furlong involving Akkadian Emperor, ridden by D. McMonagle, unplaced, and Spanish Flame, ridden by C.T. Keane, placed fourth where it appeared Spanish Flame manoeuvered right taking the racing line of Akkadian Emperor causing that horse to check off heels
Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. D. McMonagle stated that his ground was taken when getting pressure from his left and he had to check back off heels. C.T. Keane stated that he thought he was clear but misjudged his maneuvre. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Raceday Stewards were of the opinion that C.T. Keane was in breach of Rule 214 in that he had ridden carelessly. Having considered his clean record in this regard, and the fact that C.T. Keane readily accepted his breach, the Raceday Stewards suspended him for 2 racedays
D. McMonagle, rider of Akkadian Emperor, trained by Joseph Patrick O'Brien, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount had to check off heels half a furlong from the finish
S.T. McCullagh, rider of Instant Appeal (GB), trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount took a false step and hit the rail just before the bend
R.P. Cleary, rider of Oiche Chiuin, trained by J. S. Bolger, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount jumped right from the stalls.
