Phillips was interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, after which it was found that no other horse or rider was involved, and the incident was caused by the mare jumping awkwardly from the stalls before jinking sharply left-handed unseating Phillips.
Lewis Chalkley, the rider of Carlton And Co (GB), drawn 3, was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his mount being slowly away.
Chalkley‘s explanation that he had briefly been distracted by another runner becoming unsettled in the stalls and calls from its rider, which resulted in him being slightly slow in removing the blindfold was noted.
