The Stewards interviewed Ms Nicola McCarthy, authorised representative of Mr John Joseph Murphy, trainer of Sabaidee, concerning the request that their rider, DM Melia carry 3lb overweight in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider and authorised representative concerned. D.M Melia stated he'd have no problem riding at the correct weight but his minimum riding weight is 7 stone 11 lbs, while Ms McCarthy stated they were keen to claim off this filly but with the horse carrying minimum weight they had difficulty getting someone who could claim off this low weight. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards allowed the request, noting the rider had already flagged that he may be 2lbs overweight, but referred the matter on to the Chief Executive of the Turf Club for further investigation. The Stewards interviewed D.M. Melia, rider of Sabaidee, unplaced, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, in the presence of Ms Nicola McCarthy, authorised representative of John Joseph Murphy, trainer of Sabaidee. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion D.M. Melia was in breach of regulation 10 3 (b) in that he used his whip when his chance of being placed had clearly gone, and having taken his inexperience and good record into account, they cautioned him accordingly.
