The expensive acquisition carried a lofty reputation into Down Royal and further enhanced it with an impressive victory by 10 lengths. Afterwards, Gordon Elliott said: "We think he's as nice as any bumper horse we've run all year." The runner-up, Golden Spread, franked the form with a comfortable success in a Thurles bumper. He reopposes today but it is hard to see him overturning a 10-length beating in Down Royal. Golden Spread's stablemate Mt Leinster was beaten seven and a half lengths into fifth by Envoi Allen in a Grade Two at Leopardstown. That form is looking stronger since Envoi Allen won the Grade One Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival. Elliott also runs The Very Man who could be anything after a smooth success in Navan.
