The Stewards interviewed D.J Gilligan, rider of Alma Libre (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. In his evidence, D.J. Gilligan stated that his mount was feeling the ground and lugging out but kept responding to his use of the whip. He did, however, accept that he had breached the whip guidelines on the use of the whip. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that D.J. Gilligan was in breach of R10(3)(g) by using his whip with excessive frequency. Having taken his previous record into consideration and pursuant to the provisions of R10(6)(a), the Stewards suspended D.J. Gilligan for six racedays and referred him to R.A.C.E for one day's tuition on the correct use of the whip. Ms Elaine O'Farrell accompanied D.J. Gilligan at this enquiry
J.A. Powell, rider of Indulging (GB) trained by T.M. Walsh, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount raced keenly
