GLENBARROW deserves plenty of credit for being forward enough to make a winning debut, as he had to knuckle down and show a commendable attitude to go chasing after the clear leaders, WAIT FOR GREEN and PRIEST FIELD from before the straight.
As a son of Old Vic it wasn?t surprising that he?d be able to outstay the likes of PRIEST FIELD (by Daggers Drawn and he had to do a lot of running to reel in the clear pace-setter, WAIT FOR GREEN). The four-year-old GLENBARROW was a 40,000 Euro purchase last year by his owners and is a half-brother to four winners including flat/hurdles winners, Classic Express and Cruagh Express. Their dam Cry In The Dark scored over a mile, and she is a half-sister to the very useful mid-distance performer, Gorgeous Strike. The two and a half length winning Dessie Hughes-trained, Roger Loughran-ridden 7/1 chance, displayed that mix of speed and stamina that is in his pedigree and he will surely only go on to better things from here.
TRAFALGAR DAY came home quite well for the second spot and the well-bred dual flat victor, a 37,000 guineas Newmarket Autumn Sales purchase out of Mark Brisbournes, is improving with his hurdling on outing number three for Eric McNamara and he clearly has a future at this game.
PRIEST FIELD clearly didn?t see out the trip on this occasion but he won?t always have to work so hard during his races and he can surely be placed to advantage sometime soon (he is on a mark to win on the flat too).
The stoutly-bred WAIT FOR GREEN tried to make his stamina count and he didn?t completely fold when headed. It will probably be in handicap company over further when we see the best of him.
There was a twenty six length gap to the rest of them ? LARAGH HILL being one to perform reasonably on his third attempt over obstacles.
CAPDALIGHT, a reserve, got in under Davy Russell on the defection of LIKE A DUKE (temperature). He ran out six out and in that incident the rail hit CLER and he unseated Ruby Walsh.
