Permission was given for No Turning Back (GB) to go to post early wearing a red hood.
Liam Keniry, the rider of Seas Of Elzaam (IRE), placed fifth and beaten by 2 ¾ lengths and a nose behind fourth place, had appeared to stop riding shortly before the winning post.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Keniry was suspended for 4 days for failing to take all reasonable and permissible measures to obtain the best possible placing on a horse that would have finished fourth.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding Seas Of Elzaam (IRE) ridden by Liam Keniry and trained by John Butler, which was covered up before being asked for an effort approximately two furlongs out to be placed fifth, beaten 2 3/4 lengths.
Keniry was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The rider stated his instructions were to obtain cover early in the race and challenge between horses in the home straight.
Liam Keniry stated that he was happy with where the gelding jumped leaving the stalls and was positioned on the rail, mid division in an evenly run race.
He further added that he was happy with the way that Seas Of Elzaam (IRE) was travelling throughout, before initially asking the gelding to quicken approximately two furlongs out.
He went on to say that he was conscious that the gelding needed to be produced late on and therefore was keen to delay his challenge as late as possible, switching right-handed for a run between Fieldsman (USA) and ARLO’S SUNSHINE approximately a furlong out.
In his opinion when giving the gelding daylight between runners he soon felt that the horse had no more to give on the run to the line.
His explanation was noted.
Following the race, Hollie Doyle reported that Muy Muy Guapo (GB), unplaced, was slowly away.
