Almost An Angel (GB), trained by David Evans, had entered the Parade Ring after the signal to mount had been given.
After interviewing Evans’ representative, Evans was fined £140.
An enquiry was held to consider interference approximately 6 furlongs out when Almost An Angel (GB), placed sixth, ridden by Kieran Shoemark, interfered with the winner, Desert Boots (GB), ridden by Andrew Breslin, who in turn interfered with Nurse Dee (IRE), unplaced, ridden by Paul Hanagan, who in turn interfered with Cuban Cigar (GB), placed second, ridden by Luke Catton.
Being a 7lb claiming apprentice, Catton was offered the opportunity to be accompanied in the enquiry but declined.
Shoemark was suspended for 7 days for careless riding as he allowed his mount to drift left-handed, towards the rail, when insufficiently clear carrying Desert Boots (GB) onto Nurse Dee (IRE) which was badly tightened for room between the gelding and Cuban Cigar (GB), which resulted in Nurse Dee (IRE) losing its position, clipping the heels of Desert Boots (GB) and stumbling.
Rounding the final bend, Almost An Angel (GB), placed sixth, hung violently right-handed and was unsteerable carrying Lanika (GB), placed eighth, off its intended line which in turn resulted in ARTHUR’S ANGEL (IRE), placed seventh, also being carried off its intended line, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Almost An Angel (GB).
