The winner, GREATEST JOURNEY, appeared to show improved form, compared with its previous run at Chelmsford City on 20 September 2018 where the gelding finished seventh of eight, beaten by 18 lengths. Itwas noted that Michael Appleby could offer no explanation for the gelding's improved form other than that GREATEST JOURNEY had run particularly well at Chelmsford City on 13 November 2018 in the race that was subsequently voided. The gelding was routine tested.
The performance of KESWICK, which finished ninth of nine, beaten by 21 ½ lengths, was considered. The representative of Heather Main's explanation that the gelding had run flat and that the race may have come too soon was noted. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of KESWICK failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The performance of GRAFFITI MASTER, which started second favourite and finished eighth of nine, beaten by 20 ½ lengths, was considered. The representative of John Gosden could offer no explanation for the gelding's performance other than that GRAFFITI MASTER had been reluctant to enter the stalls which was uncharacteristic of the gelding.
