Permission was given for Balleticon (IRE) to go early to post and for Black Lightning (IRE) to wear a hood in the Parade Ring.
At the second last hurdle, the winner, Rare Clouds (GB), jumped left-handed giving Black Lightning (IRE), unplaced, a significant bump causing that gelding to lose its action, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Rare Clouds (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider interference approaching the final hurdle involving Do No Wrong (IRE), placed third, ridden by Sean Quinlan, Zinat (IRE), placed second, ridden by Mr Freddie Mitchell, Masterdream (FR), placed fifth, ridden by Thomas Doggrell, and Dan Gun (IRE), placed fourth, ridden by Thomas Willmott.
The interference was found to be accidental as Dan Gun (IRE) had initially lugged slightly right-handed making contact with Masterdream (FR), which in turn bumped Zinat (IRE) on the hindquarters causing that mare to become unbalanced and hang left-handed leaning back into Masterdream (FR).
Shortly thereafter Do No Wrong (IRE) edged slightly left-handed leaving Mr Mitchell without sufficient room to correct his mount from hanging, which resulted in Zinat (IRE) bumping Masterdream (FR) off its intended line onto Dan Gun (IRE) which was hampered and stumbled as a result.
The performance of Camembert Electric (IRE), which started favourite and finished placed sixth, was considered.
The representative of Tom Lacey’s explanation that the mare made several jumping errors on this occasion was noted.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Camembert Electric (IRE), during routine testing, failed to reveal any abnormalities, however noted that the mare had lost a right-hind shoe.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Balleticon (IRE), unplaced, had lost its right- hind shoe and that Do No Wrong (IRE), placed third, had lost its right-hind shoe.
