Permission was given for Sognatore (IRE) to wear a red hood to post and for Doonbeg Farmer (IRE) to be mounted on the chute and be led early to post.
Brian Meehan was cautioned as Dusk Chorus (FR) had arrived in the Parade Ring wearing undeclared blinkers which were removed before the filly went to the start.
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Doonbeg Farmer (IRE), ridden by Ellie MacKenzie and trained by James Evans, who having missed the break became detached from the field in the early stages, before latching on to the field when exiting the back straight, running on to finish sixth of eleven, beaten by 5 lengths.
The rider was interviewed and shown recordings of the race.
The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Doonbeg Farmer (IRE) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated that her instructions were to get cover in the early stages, to get Doonbeg Farmer (IRE) to settle and then to present the gelding with a strong finish.
MacKenzie explained that having badly missed the break, she was mindful not to light up Doonbeg Farmer (IRE) by chasing after the field, as the gelding is temperamental and strong willed and has to be led to post and always races very keenly.
As such, she allowed the gelding to slowly make up the ground, reaching the rear of the field when exiting the back straight.
She added that on the bend and in the home straight the gelding had stayed on, and she was happy with how the gelding finished the race despite being further back than she had intended.
Having taken into account MacKenzie’s evidence and the previous form comments in relation to Doonbeg Farmer (IRE), the Stewards noted her explanation.
