Permission was given for Counsel (GB) to wear a red hood to post.
When leaving the stalls, Amber Island (IRE), unplaced, jumped left-handed, bumping Larado (FR), placed fourth, causing knock-on interference to Jilly Cooper, placed third, carrying the filly off its intended line.
After viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved.
There appeared to be interference involving Counsel (GB), unplaced, ridden by Cam Hardie and Larado (FR), placed fourth, ridden by Theodore Ladd, when exiting the back straight.
The riders were interviewed and shown recordings of the incident after which it was found that Larado (FR) had become unbalanced after nudging the rail of its own accord and that no interference had taken place.
The winner Perseverants (FR), appeared to show improved form compared with its previous run at Southwell on 23 January 2023 where the gelding finished eighth of eleven, beaten 6 ½ lengths.
Scott Dixon’s explanation that Perseverants (FR) had improved from its previous run having been gelded and had benefitted from the drop in trip was noted.
The gelding was routine tested.
Following the race, Cam Hardie reported that Counsel (GB), unplaced, ran too free and hung right-handed.
